Start with the person. We’ll help with the technology.
You don’t need to know which device or product to ask for. Tell us what the person wants to make possible, and we’ll work through the rest together: the options, the access pathways, the setup, the training, and the support that follows.
Start Your JourneyYou don’t need to have it all figured out.
Most people who contact Gray Matters Alliance don’t start with a product name. They start with a situation: a routine that has become harder, a goal that feels out of reach, or a support team looking for a better way to help.
That’s the right place to begin. As a nationwide Assistive Technology provider, GMA helps people, families, professionals, and organizations work out what fits, put it in place, and keep it working as life changes.
What working with GMA looks like
Step 1: Start with the person
Every conversation begins with the person, not a catalog. We want to know what they want to do more independently, what’s getting in the way, and what matters most to them and the people who support them.
Questions we often start with:
- What does a good day look like?
- What would you like to do on your own, or with less help?
- Which routines matter most?
- Where does support help, and where does it get in the way?
Tell us what you’re trying to make possible. We’ll help explore the technology.
Step 2: Understand the whole picture
The same technology won’t be right for everyone, so we look at the person’s life as it really is: home, routines, communication, mobility, vision and hearing, school or work, community life, the devices already in use, and the people already helping.
This isn’t an intake form to get through. It’s how we avoid recommending something that looks right on paper and doesn’t fit real life.
In Missouri, GMA’s occupational therapist can also complete in-home assessments and evaluations when a closer look is needed.
Step 3: Explore possibilities
From there, we look at what could help. That might be assistive or enabling technology, adaptive equipment, accessibility tools, daily living aids, mobility equipment, environmental controls, communication tools, medication support, safety technology, remote-support technology, or the GMA MyCompass System.
Sometimes the right answer is one simple tool. Sometimes it’s several pieces working together. More technology isn’t automatically better, and we’ll tell you when less is the better fit.
Step 4: Explore access and funding
We help identify the pathways that may apply, so you don’t have to understand every funding rule before you reach out. Depending on the person and the service, that may include participating Medicaid waiver programs, TRICARE, veteran and military pathways, organizational or school funding, private pay, financing, or other qualified resources.
Funding, eligibility, approved services, and geographic availability vary by program, payer, state, and individual circumstances. GMA can help you understand the options, but cannot guarantee coverage or approval. Learn more about access and availability.
Step 5: Configure and implement
Technology has to fit the person and their real life, not just arrive in a box. Depending on the solution, implementation may include setup and configuration, accessibility settings, connectivity, account preparation, connecting with devices already in use, arranging the environment, testing, and coordinating with the support team.
Some solutions are simple to put in place. Others need more coordination. Either way, we plan it with you.
Step 6: Train
Technology only helps if people feel confident using it. We provide practical training for the person and, where appropriate, family members, caregivers, direct support professionals, case managers, and organization staff, each focused on what they actually need to do.
We don’t just want technology to arrive. We want it to work in real life.
Step 7: Stay connected
Needs change, and support should keep up. Where an ongoing service relationship applies, that can include follow-up check-ins, troubleshooting and technical support, refresher training, configuration changes, and a fresh look at whether the solution still fits as goals and routines evolve.
What ongoing support includes depends on the solution and the service arrangement, and we’ll be clear about it from the start.
The product is not the outcome.
Technology is a tool. What matters is what it helps make possible, as the person defines it.
- More independence
- More choice
- Participation
- Communication
- Access
- Confidence
- Safety on the person’s terms
- Less strain on caregivers
- Connection
- More control over daily life
We can’t promise outcomes, and we won’t. What we can promise is that every recommendation starts with the person’s goals, and that technology is there to strengthen human support, not replace it.
Anyone can start the conversation.
People reach GMA from many directions. Every path leads back to the same starting point: the person.
Individuals & families
Individuals, parents, spouses, adult children, and other family
Often begin with a daily challenge, like a routine that has become harder, or a wish to do more without someone always nearby.
Professionals
Case managers, support coordinators, clinicians and therapists, schools and transition programs
Often begin with a support goal for someone you work with. You don’t need to know the right technology. You know the person, and that’s what we need.
Organizations
Provider organizations, aging services, healthcare and rehabilitation, community programs
Often begin with a program-level need across many people and settings. We still plan around each person.
Whichever way you arrive, you don’t need to have everything figured out. See who we help
Good to know
Nationwide, with clear limits
Assistive technology, DME and related equipment, and the GMA MyCompass System are available nationwide. Some professional and in-person services vary by location; OT home assessments are currently available in Missouri.
No predetermined package
The recommendation may be one item, several coordinated supports, or something different from what you expected.
Keep health records out of the first message
Please don’t send medical records through the website form. If more detail is needed later, we’ll talk with you about how to share it appropriately.
People stay at the center
Technology supports awareness and independence. It doesn’t replace caregivers, professional judgment, or human connection.
You don’t need the answer yet. Just tell us what you’re trying to solve.
Share a little about the person, their goals, and what’s getting in the way. We’ll listen first and help map out the next steps together.
