Sensitive and high-responsibility environments

Assistive technology where purpose, privacy, and accountability come first

We treat your program’s information the way we treat our own.

01 / The request

Every request starts too big.

That is where risk begins.

02 / Five gates

Five gates.

  1. 01Purpose
  2. 02Rights
  3. 03Minimum access
  4. 04Security
  5. 05Accountability

03 / Dignity

No camera monitoring.

Contactless sensing. Encrypted video calls only.

04 / Control

Connected on your terms.

  • Granular permissions
  • Content filtering
  • Encrypted video calls
  • Device status
  • Partner connectivity
  • Backups supplied

05 / Preparedness

Planned for the hard day.

Emergency response and preparedness experts, alongside our clinicians.

06 / The person

Only what is needed reaches the person.

For reviewers

The detail your reviewers will ask for

01

Settings we support

  • Authorized government and public-sector programs
  • Military and veteran-serving environments
  • Confidential and protective programs
  • Specialized healthcare settings
  • Court-ordered and legal-supervision programs
  • Privacy-critical and controlled environments

Supervision or compliance requests are a separate question from the person’s assistive technology needs. They require documented legal authority, a narrow scope, the person’s rights, proportionality, and a review or end date. GMA may decline.

02

The five gates in detail

  1. 01 Defined authority and purposeIs there a legitimate purpose the organization is authorized to pursue, tied to the needs of the person served? If not met: we do not proceed.
  2. 02 Rights, consent, and authorizationAre the person’s rights to privacy, dignity, and informed participation respected? Are consent rules met?If not met: we do not proceed until they are.
  3. 03 Minimum necessary accessWhat is the least information, and the fewest features, the purpose needs? Which roles need access? If not met: scope is reduced, or the capability is left out.
  4. 04 Security and infrastructure readinessDoes it fit your network, device policies, and security review? Can it hold up through outages, turnover, and device changes? If not met: connectivity, filtering, and backups are adjusted until it fits.
  5. 05 Human accountability and continuityWho acts on information, oversees use, and decides? Responsibility is assigned before deployment. If not met: we do not deploy until roles are assigned.

What GMA provides

  • Assistive and adaptive equipmentCommunication, access, and daily living supports. Assistive technology.
  • Enabling and remote support technologyScoped to the defined purpose. Enabling technology and remote support.
  • Emergency preparedness planningOur emergency response and preparedness experts and clinicians help plan for outages, evacuations, and continuity.
  • Suitability review, setup, and trainingPurpose, access, data, and duties first. Training scoped to authorized roles.
  • Controls your program can setGranular permissions, content filtering, and encrypted video calls. Messages and critical alerts can be turned off entirely. Organizations see the status of every device, with connectivity through our partner network and backups supplied.
  • No camera monitoringContactless sensing provides awareness without images. Video is used only for encrypted calls.
04

Principles

  • Legitimate purposeDefined, authorized uses that serve the person. Never open-ended observation.
  • Rights and minimum accessPermission-based access, limited to authorized roles.
  • Human oversightStaff own supervision, decisions, and response. AI supports judgment.
  • Honest suitabilityIf it is not suitable, we tell you.
  • Accurate security claimsCapabilities are not authorization. Your requirements govern.
  • GMA software, only if gatedThe MyCompass System is reviewed feature by feature. Security and privacy.

How an engagement proceeds

  2. Suitability evaluationFive gates: suitable, scoped down, or not appropriate.
  3. Governance reviewYour reviewers assess under your requirements.

06

What we will ask in a first discussion

  • What type of program is this, and what purpose would the technology serve?
  • Which needs: communication, access, or daily routines?
  • Any limits on connectivity, devices, or data handling?
  • Which roles are responsible for use, oversight, and decisions?
  • What vendor reviews, timeline, and purchasing approach apply?

No confidential, protected, or classified information. Engagements follow your procurement process. GMA does not determine eligibility, approve funding, or guarantee outcomes.

GMA does not claim any government security certification, authorization to operate, or approval for classified or restricted environments. Security capabilities are not regulatory authorization.

Questions about sensitive environments

Does GMA hold government security certifications or authorizations?

No. GMA does not claim any government security certification, authorization to operate, or approval for classified, restricted, or justice settings. Your organization's requirements determine suitability.

Will you tell us if something is not a good fit?

Yes. If our evaluation shows a technology is not suitable, we will say so and suggest alternatives where they exist, including non-connected equipment.

Can capabilities be turned off or limited?

What can be turned off, limited, or left out is confirmed during the suitability review for the specific products involved. We do not assume a feature can be disabled until then. Access is limited to authorized roles.

Is this technology used for surveillance?

No. Our technology is meant to support the people served with communication, access, and daily living, within a defined purpose. We do not support general observation of individuals. Supervision-related requests are handled separately, as the next answer explains, and may be declined.

Can GMA technology be used to help meet supervision or compliance requirements?

Only after a separate, case-by-case evaluation, and sometimes the answer is no. A request like this needs documented legal authority, a narrow scope, the least intrusive approach that meets the need, the person informed as far as the law allows, access limited to named roles, and a review or end date.

Decisions about supervision, violations, and consequences always stay with the responsible authority, never with the technology or GMA. GMA does not claim approval or certification for any supervision or compliance program.

Who is responsible for responding to information from the technology?

Your organization. GMA does not operate response services. Staffing, supervision, procedures, and decisions stay with you and should be defined before deployment.

Start with a careful conversation

Tell us, in general terms, about your environment and what you want to support. We will follow up to set up a first discussion and walk through the five gates.
